Recruitment Agencies

Many employers today use recruitment agencies to help them to find the right person for the job. So getting registered with an agency could be a good first move. Going for an interview with a recruitment agency is as important as going for an interview with an employer so make sure that you've done your homework and have prepared your CV and have prepared some interview answers.

Some agencies also specialise in particular sectors and jobs, you can search for local agencies on the Agency Central website.

Networking

Networking with people in your chosen career sector could prove invaluable to building up contacts and being in the right position to find out when new roles come up. The best starting point is to look out for existing networks – check out industry conferences and events, look for relevant groups on social media sites and make sure you get along to career’s fairs. Once you get out there, don’t forget to keep details of people that you’ve met that you want to stay in touch with.

Target employers

Remember many jobs aren't advertised. If there's companies that you would love to work for, why not approach them yourself with a speculative CV. Tailor to the company - send it to their HR department and follow it up with a phone call a few days later. This shows that you are proactive and you never know where it could lead. Want inspiration?
